SOUTH LIVERPOOL PREVIEW

Into the last five games of the regular season and, with a play-off place secured, it is now about where the Rams finish within that top four – second, third or fourth … or top? A trip to South Liverpool awaits on Wednesday night for match number 42.

OVERVIEW:
The first of the three remaining away games sees the Rams head west to Liverpool, to Aigburth to be precise on the banks of the River Mersey. An area of great interest for music lovers, being close to Paul McCartney and John Lennon’s childhood homes and ten minutes away from Strawberry Field. Or if you are more of a cricket person, its a mile and a half away from Aigburth cricket ground where Lancashire often play.
The only thing that Ramsbottom United will be interested in on their “Day Tripper” – three points against the side in 20th place, seven points clear of the relegation line so they are still be looking over their shoulders “Now and Then”.
With a place in the end of season play-offs secured, all that matters is that the Rams continue their recent run of good form and look for “A Little Help From My Friends” as a top four place is guaranteed and the teams in second and third will host the play-off semi-final on Saturday 26th April.
However, South Liverpool have picked up of late themselves and have lost just one of their last five games – a humbling 6-0 reverse at Lower Breck but beat Glossop North End 2-0 a fortnight ago and came away from FC Isle of Man with a 2-2 on Saturday, so they will not be as easy as Bury found out back in February, as they came away with just a 1-0 win thanks to an early goal.
It is our first visit to this part of Liverpool with South Liverpool having been promoted last season and the reverse fixture went comfortably the way of the Rams, winning 4-0 thanks to Luke Sephton’s early strike and then three goals in the space of seven early second half minutes which closed the deal 4-0.
“I’ve Got a Feeling” that it will be a hard game and the Rams will need to be firmly on their guard to ensure that it is not “A Hard Day’s Night” as this season, which has been exciting, fascinating and intriguing and every Rammy supporter hopes that it is “Getting Better” come the end of April and into early May.
Ramsbottom United … “Don’t Let Me Down”. Let’s all “Come Together” and get behind the Rams on Wednesday night!
STEVE WILKES SAYS:
“I want to thank the players who have achieved the play-offs with five games to go. That was the intention at the start of the season but it is nowhere near what we want to achieve.
“We now need to keep working hard in the next five games so we go into the play-offs in decent form. This game against South Liverpool will be a tough test for us, they are still fighting against relegation and they will want to use their home facility to their advantage.
“All that we know is that we are in good form, playing well and that needs to continue through these last five games before the play-off semi final.”
