Overview:
This will be the fourth away fixture in a row for the Rams and so far none of them have been kind. Three defeats from three games in January isn’t what anyone at the club was hoping for heading into the new year. This evening throws up a fixture against a fellow relegation rival and it feels like a must win for both teams.
The hosts in this one don’t come into the game in much better form than Ramsbottom although, they have been able to pick up three points since the start of the year. They drawn against Colne at home, Newcastle Town away and then Runcorn at home as well since the turn of the year. Despite there steady to 2023 Hanley did in fact fall to defeat at the hands of Mossley last time out.
Rammy will be coming into this one wanting a bit of revenge as Hanley beat them in the reverse fixture on the opening weekend of the season 3-1 at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium.
The Rams sit in 19th place as there opposition this evening sits just one place above them in 18th. However, there is in fact five points separating the two sides before this one but the visitors will be hoping to close the gap to just two. If Hanley were able to grab all three points tonight then the gap would extend to eight points and that would be a hell of a mountain for Rammy to climb.
History:
This is rather untouched territory for both sides as they have in fact only faced off on one occasion. That fixture was the game earlier on this season when Hanley ran out 3-1 winners away from home. Ramsbottom will certainly be hoping to level the score this evening as the two sides face off. The top scorer in this fixture is Chris Dagnall after he grabbed two back in August.
Stat of the preview:
Neither side has been able to register a win in 2023 despite Hanley racking up three points since the turn of the year. Both teams will be eager to change that this evening.
