The Rams kicked off their pre-season with a short trip up the valley to take on West Lancs League neighbours Rossendale FC.

With ten players absent for a variety of reasons, the visitors struggled in the first half and it was no surprise when they went in at the break a goal down.

A number of halftime substitutions injected more life in the second half, and after a let-off when the hosts struck the bar, the visitors took control with newcomer Tommy Hoyle netting the equaliser.

The home keeper made a number of good saves to keep his side in the game before the match was settled by a superb free-kick strike from Maine Walder.

It was also good to see a few of last year’s U18 players feature in the senior team. ‘Keeper Jack Massey made his debut and played the full 90 minutes while Alex Yates made his first start for the club. There was also a debut for Ollie Booth who has been at the club since he was just 5 years old!

All-in-all a good runout for both sides before a healthy watching crowd.
