BAKER BACK IN RAMMY BLUE

Vastly experienced midfielder Richie Baker has today re-joined the club after signing from Clitheroe.

The now 36-year-old originally joined the Rams in November 2019 from Colne and had a superb record of 17 unbeaten in the league from his first 17 games before suffering a first loss at Clitheroe in October 2020.

Baker, who racked up over 150 appearances for then Football League side Bury, scoring 17 goals, went on to represent the likes of Oxford United, Barrow, Tamworth, Stockport County, AFC Fylde, FC United and Curzon Ashton before linking up with the Rams under Chris Wilcock, reuniting with his former Bury team mate Tom Kennedy.

Richie made 27 appearances for Ramsbottom across three seasons – although two of which were decimated and deemed null and void by the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns before leaving for Clitheroe in August 2021.

Rams manager Steve Wilkes, hot on the heels of his side winning the league’s October Club of the Month award, was delighted with the acquisition of another experienced player.

“What a signing for the club Richie is”, said Wilkes.

“He’s played at Ramsbottom before and is another player that oozes experience. I’ve known Richie a long time and watched him from afar, so to finally get him on board is a real boost for the club.”

Richie himself was also looking forward to getting started back at the HWRS.

“I’m so pleased to be joining back up with Ramsbottom and am excited for the new challenge”, said Baker.

“The lads have started the season brilliantly and I’m hoping I can help push them towards their goals and maintain those high standards they’ve set.

“I’ve known the manager for a long time without actually working with him so it made my decision easier, along with joining back up with an old friend and teammate in Teaguey”.

Richie slots straight into the squad for tomorrow’s trip to Silsden in the Isuzu FA Vase.
