The Rams begin their 2022/23 campaign with a trip across the border to Yorkshire, to face Northern Counties East Premier Division side Thackley in the Emirates FA Cup.

OVERVIEW:
This will be the 25th time the club has competed in the FA Cup to date.
Saturday’s opposition began their league campaign last weekend, with a 1-1 draw against Golcar United. Two well known non-league players on the scoresheet. Aidan Chippendale, who joined Thackley from Bury AFC this summer and former Rams player Daniel Naidole was on the scoresheet for Golcar United.
Both sides have recruited well over the summer, which should make for an interesting fixture.
Although the stats don’t favour Thackley in this competition, as long with Clapton FC & Lordswood FC, they hold the record for the most Extra Preliminary Round exits, having been knocked out at the earliest stage possible 13 times each.
The winner will pickup £1,125 in prize money, whilst the loser will gets £375 from the fund.
Should the game be level after 90 minutes it will go to a replay at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium on Tuesday 9th August, 7:45pm kick-off.
HISTORY:
It’s not the first time, these two sides have met in the FA Cup.
In fact, it will be the fourth time on Saturday that the sides have met in this competition.
The Rams picked up the first victory in August 2002, 1-0 at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium, with club record scorer Russell Brierley getting the game’s only goal.
It would be another four years before the teams met again, this time at Dennyfield. Thackley opened the scoring within the first minute of the match, before Ryan Moore begged it back for the Rams from the penalty spot just after the half hour mark.
Thackley picked up a win in the subsequent replay, scoring to win 1-0 with 12 minutes remaining.
There’s one other previous meeting on record between the two clubs in the FA Vase, from September 2000, a game the Rams won 4-3.
TEAM NEWS:
Manager Lee Donafee has confirmed that Seydou Bamba is the only player sidelined this weekend through injury.
Everyone else is available for selection.

Speaking to ramsbottomutd.com ahead of the fixture Donafee said: “Looking forward to Saturday’s game it will be good to get back into competitive football and there is no better way to kick it off than the FA Cup.
“We have a new look squad and pre-season has gone ok, but we still feel there is work to do and that’s something we will continue to do throughout the season.
“The aim will be to give it our best and get through to the next round.”
