Barnoldswick Town have not lost a game in the league since losing to close rivals Ramsbottom United back in August.
And thanks to Aaron Hollingdrake’s late strike, they stretched their unbeaten run to 17 matches, climbed up to third place in the Vodkat League Premier Division and exacted revenge for that defeat.
Town were looking to bounce back from their cup defeat against Irlam last week while the Rams were on a four-match winning streak but the home side made the early running, taking the lead in the 27th minute through Liam Garbutt.
The striker was in the right place to apply the finishing touch to a low cross from Liam Blades.
Ramsbottom had a chance to level before the break but no-one could convert a fine cross from Dominic Smalley.
Bill Williams forced Grant Shenton in to a save early in the second half as Barlick searched for that second goal.
Shenton was called into action soon after, palming away a fierce free kick from Lewis Jordan. But the Rams began to apply the pressure and on 78 minutes levelled when Mark Drew scored from the spot and Williams was red carded for the foul – a second yellow for the card happy official who brandished the caution 11 times in the game.
But with Rams pushing forward looking for the winner, 10-man Town hit them on the break and Hollingdrake prodded home Neil Chapman’s cross at the far post.

After the excellent win over Woodley Sports in the FA Vase first round the previous weekend, the Rams returned to league action having exited the Floodlit Trophy 4-0 on aggregate in midweek at home to Darwen.
That defeat on the Wednesday night was described by manager Ken Bridge as their worst display of the season and things didn’t get much better on this trip to Holker Old Boys.
The Rams travelled with injury concerns to midfielder David Yorke-Robinson and prolific striker Steve Orrell.
But the Barrow-in-Furness hosts, who were bottom of the table before the game started, and would only win seven games all season, claimed one of their victories in this game 1-0.
As it would transpire, the Rams would only win one of their next five games before going on a pre-Christmas winning streak.
