It was just the one change to Steve Wilkes’s side from the fantastic win on Sunday over Worsborough in the FA Vase but the result was certainly different.

Both sides came out of the blocks flying with the visitors having a wonderful chance to take the lead just 30 seconds in as Bevan Burey headed an Etia cross narrowly over the bar. It didn’t take Rammy long to respond with a chance of their own as Matt Dudley slipped through Henri Ogunby but Louis Hood was down fast to make a fine save.

The Rams continued to push in the early knockings and they found the breakthrough after just 5 minutes when Kuda Chingwaro played a ball into the feet of Matt Dudley. The forward swiveled past his man and finessed one into the bottom right corner from 25 yards, it was a sensational piece of skill and an even better finish from the Rams number nine.

Despite finding themselves in a comfortable winning position Ramsbottom weren’t able to hold onto their lead very long when the away side hit on the counter attack on 14 minutes. The ball was played across the edge of the box into the feet of James Badrock who scuffed one goal bound and it wrong footed goalkeeper Ryan Hamer to pull themselves level.

The goal didn’t seem to dampen the spirts of the hosts and they continued to push as they went on their quest to get back ahead and Matt Dudley had a sensational chance to do just that on 26 minutes but the keeper made a world class stop to deny him.

Despite Rammy’s best efforts the scores were all level at the break and they knew they would need to offer more in front of goal if they were to regain their much deserved lead.

Glossop came out for the second half flying and it was in fact them who found themselves in front in the early stages after substitute Finley Stanyer latched his head onto a corner kick to send it flying into the back of the net.

However this only seemed to fire up the home side even more and on 58 minutes they managed to level up the game once more. Henri Ogunby played a teasing ball across the edge of the box and Kuda Chingwaro was waiting to smash it home from 20 yards giving the keeper absolutely no chance of reaching it.

Then just five minutes later the away side responded and pulled themselves back in front, another counter attack and the ball found its way through to Badrock who smashed home a volley for his second of the evening and his sides third.

Ramsbottom had it all to do again and they so very nearly drew level on 68 minutes when Chingwaro tried his luck from close range but the keeper made a great save to deny him. The hosts kept pushing but to no avail and Glossop were able to see the game out.

A disappointing result for the Rams in the end but they’ll be sure to pick themselves up as they travel to Liverpool this weekend to face off against Lower Breck.
